When Ms. Magiera is not in the classroom, she works on curriculum projects and leads PD workshops for Golden Apple, CPS and the Academy for Urban School Leadership. In 2008, she was named a Golden Apple Teacher of Distinction and subsequently helped to co-found and run the GA Teachers for Tomorrow annual conferences. She is currently involved in the University of Chicago Teacher Leadership Institute for Math and Science and worked this summer as an Everyday Mathematics curriculum fellow. Last year, Ms. Magiera began implementing an iPad technology grant. She has enjoyed using this innovative technology, combined with Google Tools, to improve assessment practices and increase student engagement. Recently she was named an Apple Distinguished Educator and has been learning much more about tech ed as a part of this cohort. Aside from her students, Ms. Magiera's great loves in life are sci fi, mashed potatoes, Tabasco sauce, her schnauzer (Pepper) and her husband (Jim). ![]() |
